Back in the late 1800's, a small country store became a local tradition for good coffee and good times. It all started with Stanislaus and Marie Melancon’s idea that folks and family could come together and share wisdom and special times over a great cup of coffee. In fact Mr. “Laus” was known to carry a cup of his favorite dark roast, “or strong brew” with him as he went about his daily duties. Mrs. “Laus” however, having less time to dawdle and think on the activities of the day, preferred a fresh morning cup of her own choice of smooth medium roast. Mrs. Melancon, known as "Mam Laus" by customers and friends, made sure everyone in the house each day “took” their coffee before doing or starting anything else. The wholesome tradition, started in that small country store along the River Road leading toward Baton Rouge, continues today with the River Road Coffee Company.
